On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Danbury Museum, the Danbury Music Centre, and the Music Department of Ƶ will celebrate the 151st anniversary of the birth of Charles Edward Ives, Connecticut’s state composer and Danbury’s own Pulitzer Prize-winner. All events are free and open to all.

At 9 a.m. there will be a special graveside remembrance by the Ives family plot in Wooster Cemetery (20 Ellsworth Ave., Danbury), followed by an open house at the Charles Ives Birthplace Museum (5 Mountainville Ave., Danbury) from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The day’s events move to the Danbury Palace Theater (165 Main St.), with a 1 p.m. showing of “A Good Dissonance Like a Man.” After the movie, members of the Central iPad Ensemble under the guidance of Dr. Drake Andersen, will present an Ivesian sound experience made up of sounds sourced from all over Danbury and uploaded by the public.

At 3 p.m., the grand finale of #Ives151 features musicians of the Danbury Symphony Orchestra and the Danbury Community Orchestra, under the direction of Stephen Michael Smith, who will perform Charles Ives’s Symphony No. 3: The Camp Meeting and The Unanswered Question. This one-of-a-kind concert, held atop the Bardo Parking Garage (10 Library Place), pays tribute to Charles Ives in the heart of his hometown, just steps from where he once lived.

This is a joint celebration with the Danbury Museum, the Danbury Music Centre, and Ƶ.
