Cleaning Glassware

It is imperative for the enjoyment of wine that the glassware we use is clean and smells of nothing. Washing-up products have a nasty habit of leaving residue on the glass. Drying the glassware the wrong way can also contribute to the problem. These odours will adversely affect the taste of our wine. Here are a few simple tips for washing glassware:

When using a dishwasher, ideally wash the glassware alone and refrain from using any cleaning fluid or powder. Glass cleans easily, and wineglasses are never that dirty anyway, so washing with hot water is normally sufficient.

When washing by hand, again use hot water to clean then rinse with cold water and then let the glasses air-dry.

Once dry, polish them with a clean linen cloth reserved purely for your glassware -- use linen only, as other materials may leave specks.

Air-dry your decanters ideally using a special decanter dryer -- available at essentiallywine.com

For difficult stains, use a special decanter brush reserved only for cleaning your decanters -- also available at Essentially Wine.

Store your clean glasses and decanters standing upright in a dust-free cabinet away from any smells or scents.
