TASTING NOTES
The nose has depth of black fruits, cassis, bilberry and sloe. The sweetness on the palate is beautifully balanced by mid freshness and this brings out and lifts the fruit flavours.
BACKGROUND
There are 5 grape varieties on the estate namely Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot, Mouvedre and Petit Verdot; the latter two are varieties that we have planted in a very small quantity for experimental purposes. All our vineyard blocks are on north-facing slopes, which is a great benefit in the Southern Hemisphere, and the Helderberg mountain behind the property protects Rust en Vrede from the Cape south-easter that can blow viciously at times. Our harvesting period is normally from mid-February to the end of March. All our grapes are picked and sorted by hand and our blocks and clones are not mixed on picking.
