TASTING NOTES
Primitivo at its best is a fantastic wine, very full bodied, jammy with tones of chocolate and raisins and here you have this expression in its abundance. The wine has been aged in barriques for up to a year. The colour is ruby-red with violet highlights. The intense and complex aromas are of ripe berries, jams, spices and hints of vanilla. To the palate it is delicate, full-bodied, harmonic and lightly tannic.
BACKGROUND
Primitivo di Manduria, along with Salice Salentino, is probably the most prestigious wine produced in Puglia. The town of Manduria itself is steeped in history and has a vast Mura Messapiche archaeological park with wonderful walkways which appears to be permanently closed to the public.
Cantina Sampietrana is a Cantina Social with just over 60 members and has being making fine Salento wines since 1952 and remain honest to their true traditions as well as adapting to the challenges and opportunities of the global market. The cellar is located in the historic village of San Pietro Vernotico which lies between Brindisi and Lecce.
