TASTING NOTES
Vibrant youthful brilliant hue of good depth.
Nose of ripe cherry and plum fruits with chocolaty influences. The palate displays good depth of fruit concentration, ripe sweet fruit fleshiness in the mid palate and good flavour extension. Shiraz from selected premium Margaret River vineyards were used to make this 2008 Pitchfork Shiraz. Shiraz was fermented in open stainless steel tanks with twice daily pumpovers aiding fruit tannin development. Maturation in new, 1, 2 and 3 year old French oak for 12 months encouraged wine development and structural complexity.
BACKGROUND
Pitchfork is a great value, strikingly packaged and distinctive range of Margaret River wines made by Michael Kerrigan at Hay Shed Hill. The Shiraz has ripe cherry and plum fruits with chocolaty influences, while the Cabernet Merlot has ripe berry fruits with chocolate mint characters typical of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate has good concentration of ripe sweet berry fruits with impressive fleshiness and ripe tannin on the finish.
