TASTING NOTES
An intense, red-purple wine. Sweet mineral-edged fruit on the nose. Quite classy. Bags of structure on the palate. It's a massive, hard wine, with hidden fruit and plenty of tannin. Moderate acidity.
BACKGROUND
Although the estate bears the name of the Poyferré family, it was not in their ownership for long. It was during their tenure that the estate was ranked as duexieme Cru in the1855 classification, During the 1990s and early years of the 21st century quality has truly been in the ascendant, and it seems clear that Poyferré is again producing the standard of wines of which it has always been capable.
Now with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon. In fact, the proportion of the latter variety more than doubled, from 30% to its current figure of 65% (35 hectares), the balance being 25% Merlot. With a team comprising of owner Didi Cuvelier, and Michel Rolland, Bruno Clenet, oenologist Isabelle Davin and maître de chai Didier Thomann, it is small wonder that Poyferre is again in the ascendancy.
