TASTING NOTES
This is very much an experimental wine and is the farms first effort to make an organic white wine to partner the acclaimed Ladybird red. The Chardonnay and Viognier were co-fermented in oak barrels and then the Chenin was blended at the time of bottling. The wine has good dimensions of nuts, white peach and hints of paw-paw and a fresh aroma. Expressive on the palate with a lingering aftertaste. Almost a creamy acidity makes this an incredibly appealing dry white wine.
NOTE. This wine is not yet officially certified organic but will achieve this status in the next few years. Food pairings: Creamy pea and asparagus risotto, Chicken Chasseur and pork Strogonoff.
BACKGROUND
One of the Cape`s more recent wine estates having been purchased by the Laibach-Kuehner family in the early 1990s. An initial investment saw the 40 hectare property totally replanted and this was followed by the building of a state of the art and contemporary winery. Stuffed full of modern winemaking kit but using traditional barrel ageing, this is a wine estate with a growing reputation right on top of its game. Managed by the very likeable Mike Malherbe, a totally fanatical grape grower and in tandem with the exceptionally talented winemaker, Francois van Zyl they endeavour to craft modern drinkable and delicious wines for a sophisticated and discerning market.
