TASTING NOTES
This is a full and rounded oaked style of Chardonnay with intense aromas of stonefruit and delicate floral notes. The palate is full and rich with stonefruit flavours and some floral and buttery characters.
BACKGROUND
Tukipo River Estate Vineyard lies on Highway 50 on the stony terraces of the Tukipo River and overlooked by the Tukipo Terraces House. The first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines were planted in 2001 by Bay and Shona de Lautour and the vineyard is now run by their daughter Kate and her husband Roland Norman. Roland, who is in charge of all winemaking and vineyard operations. The wine was 100% barrel fermented with 30% new and 70% seasoned French oak barriques using several different yeasts to add complexity. The wine underwent 100% malo-lactic fermentation and was kept in barrel for 9 months with battonage (lees stirring) every two weeks to attenuate the palate weight. The wine was gently fined using skimmed milk powder and then protein stabilised using bentonite. The wine was sterile filtered before bottling.
