TASTING NOTES
This is a crisp, fruit driven and very lightly oaked style of Chardonnay with intense aromas of grapefruit and citrus and a hint of delicate floral notes. The palate is crisp with grapefruit and citrus flavours.
BACKGROUND
Tukipo River Estate Vineyard lies on Highway 50 on the stony terraces of the Tukipo River and overlooked by the Tukipo Terraces House. The first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines were planted in 2001 by Bay and Shona de Lautour and the vineyard is now run by their daughter Kate and her husband Roland Norman. Roland, who is in charge of all winemaking and vineyard operations. The wine was fermented in 90% stainless steel and 10% seasoned French oak barriques using several different yeasts to add complexity.The wine underwent 10% malo-lactic fermentation on the barrel portion. The wine was kept in tank and barrel for 4 months with battonage (lees stirring) every two weeks to attenuate the palate weight.
