TASTING NOTES
This wine has a moderately deep ruby and garnet colour and has aromas of dark cherry and blackberry with hints of spice and earthiness and well integrated oak.
BACKGROUND
Tukipo River Estate Vineyard lies on Highway 50 on the stony terraces of the Tukipo River and overlooked by the Tukipo Terraces House. The first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines were planted in 2001 by Bay and Shona de Lautour and the vineyard is now run by their daughter Kate and her husband Roland Norman. Roland, who is in charge of all winemaking and vineyard operations. The wine was de-stemmed but not crushed into open fermenters where it was hand plunged throughout fermentation. After fermentation the wine was transferred using gravity to French oak barrels, 50% of which were new and the remainder seasoned barrels and inoculated for malo-lactic fermentation. The wine was racked twice during maturation which was for 18 months.
