TASTING NOTES
'The 2007 Pinot Noir Estate is most expressive aromatically. Cinnamon, allspice, rose petal, cherry, and raspberry scents lead to a silky, medium-bodied, feminine Pinot with savoury red fruits, excellent concentration, lively acidity, and a lengthy finish.
BACKGROUND
The Eyrie Vineyard was founded in 1966 by David & Diana Lett and was the first vineyard in the Dundee Hills. The previous year David had planted the first Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Pinot Gris in the Willamette Valley, now the epicenter of the Oregon wine industry. In 1970 the Eyrie Vineyard produced the New World’s first Pinot Gris, and in 1975 they produced the first American Pinot Noir to compete successfully with Burgundy.
Fermented in small bins from completely de-stemmed and mostly whole berries. The ‘must” is punched down by hand every four hours. After a gentle pressing, the wine is transferred to oak casks. During nearly two years in barrel, the wine falls naturally clear, and is bottled without filtration or fining.
FOOD MATCHING
Pinot will go with fish, especially grilled, so if you fancy drinking red wine with your fish – go for it. Poultry and some lighter game birds. Unsmoked Pork dishes. Lighter cheeses. Take advantage of Pinot Noir as it is a very versatile wine for food pairing.
