BACKGROUND
The Villenouvette vineyard is situated on the terroir of Fontfroide in the Corbières appellation zone. The current vineyard is established over three successive terraces up from the river Orbieu. The AOC vineyard is planted on the high and mid terraces; the VDP on the lower terraces. These are pebbly and gravelly soils which favour a good maturity of the grapes. The varietals grown are the traditional AOC Corbières varietals: Syrah, Grenache ,Noir, Mourvèdre,Cinsault, Carignan; the latter being particularly well adapted to this hot and dry land. The grape yields are poor (45hl per hectare) respecting the decree of the Appellation.
