The amazing demand for Pinot Grigio has meant that there is now more Italian Pinot Grigio consumed than is actually grown!
How’s this possible?
Some greedy people in the wine supply chain are watering down Pinot Grigio to make it go further. Well, not actually watering it down with water, but rather blending it with other grapes that are in abundance instead and then passing it off as pure Pinot Grigio.
So beware of “cheap” Pinot Grigio from dubious sources. This is not the first time that cheating has been discovered in the wine industry, only recently a world renown Chateau in France was found to be buying in grapes to bottle under their own labels – very naughty indeed. This sort of cheating destroys customers’ trust and goodwill, and damages reputations for years – a fact that the idiots whom practice this behaviour seem to overlook in their greedy quest for riches. There’s something to be said for that old saying, “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
